Zoo trip

It was sunny and 50 degrees out on December 28, so of course we had to do something outside to celebrate.

Sleeping baby

Laszlo fell asleep in his bouncy chair with his arms out, like a Jesus pose. Looks uncomfortable, but he seems to like it. 

Earlier tonight Rowan was in her crib going "jailbreak, jailbreak, jailbreak."

Siblings!

Rowan has really taken to her brother. She likes to try and interact with him, will tell him "it's okay, buddy" when he is upset, and asks after him if he's not in the room. I can't wait until he can start interacting with him. She's going to be so happy. 

Mr. Laszlo

And we're back!

It's been a while since I posted here, and that's because on September 3, 2013, we welcomed our son into the world!  Laszlo Dionisio Gordon weighed in at 7lb 5oz. He's doing very well, and his sister loves him. 

Imitation

Rowan really likes to imitate her daddy lately, so when he laid down on the floor, she followed and snuggled up beside him.

Excited to be a big sis

Rowan was very happy to learn today that not only will she be able to play with her little brother, but she will be able to "give him cheese and tortillas and grapes," her words.  I hope she's still this eager when he actually gets here.

Phone Conversation

One of Rowan's friends she sees a lot is a 9-month-old baby named Audrey.  Today Rowan dug out her remote control toy from the bin, then put it up to her ear like a phone.  Then she said, "hello?  Audrey? *pause*  Haha! Haha!"  She was smiling and very happy to be talking with Audrey, who apparently told a funny joke that Rowan laughed at.

A drum

Rowan just woke up from a nap, and she's in her crib going, "what's that?  That's a drum.  Boom boom boom."  I have no idea where she learned this.

Video time!

Here's Rowan "reading" a book.  Mostly she's asking what things are.  And then she goes through it backwards.

Here she is in her room talking about two boxes and then trying to hijack the phone from me.  For some reason, the sound is messed up and I have deleted the video from my phone already, so this is what we have.

Wagon Time

Rowan's friend Lucy was really excited to pull her around Lucy's yard in the wagon, and Rowan was loving it.  They did this for a good half hour.  Lucy's little sister Jinjur also told Rowan at one point, "you're a good Rowan."  The. Three of them had a lot of fun together.

Poop check

Me: Rowan, did you poop?

Rowan: check diaper!  *pulls up her skirt and tries to feel inside for poop*

Yummy

Once again proving that she is our daughter, Rowan loves peas fresh from the pod.

Fireworks

Rowan's latest obsession is watching fireworks videos on YouTube.  She loves fireworks as long as they aren't being set off near her.

More coloring

Every day after breakfast she "plays crayons" for a while.

Counting

Apparently, Rowan knows how to count to 13.  This is news to me.  I thought she stopped at 10.

I went to get Rowan after her nap, and the following happened:

Me: okay, high five!

Me: that was cute.  Kisses!  * I kiss her a bunch on the forehead*
R: more kisses!
Me: more kisses?  Okay!  *I kiss her neck*
R: more kisses! On the cheek.
Me: more kisses on the cheek! *I kiss her cheek*
R: good kisses. Out of crib.

Tantrum and Prejudice

Rowan loves books, so they're a great way to distract her out of a tantrum.  She also very adorably reads her little version of "Pride and Prejudice" to me sometimes, and today I was able to capture both at the same time.

Daily Update, 6/15/2013

I am going to try and start doing these, just so I can go back when she is a teenager and remember she was really cute once.

Rowan "helped" water the plants this afternoon, which meant she helped hold the spray nozzle and stuck her other hand in the spray.  She got totally soaked.  Then we busted out a sprinkler, and she loved it.  Next time, I will put her in a bathing suit, though.

She started a "what's that?" Phase where she asks what everything/everyone is.

She asked me "how you doing?" When I sat down next to her.

She loves the extra time she gets to spend with her dad on dadurday.

Best friend

Rowan had me read her a book about best friends, and afterwards I asked her if she had a best friend.  I figured she would mention one of her friends, Audrey or Cadence, but she thought for a minute, smiled, and then pointed at me.  I don't think she really knew what I was asking, but I will take it!

Toddler Milestone

Congratulations to Rowan, who just passed a major toddler milestone by sticking her first raisin up her nose.

Book Awareness

Rowan has a number of favorite books she knows by name, and she can also identify what's happening on pages within the books.  She's read them enough with Rob, me, and others that she can say phrases or ideas from the page.  It's really fun to watch her go through one of the books she knows and listen to what she pulls out.

More talking progress

Rowan this afternoon while she was playing with her comb: "all done with comb."  And that was that.

Awwwww

As Rob was taking Rowan upstairs for her bath and then bed, I said "night, night" to her.  She turned and smiled at me and said, "night night, Mommy!"  Awww.

Bouncing is Funny!

Rowan and I visited my friend Sarah and her daughter, Audrey, today.  The two kids had a blast entertaining each other.  It was really fun to watch.  Audrey would jump in the jumparoo (borrowed from Rowan!) and Rowan would laugh at her.  Then if Rowan bounced, Audrey would follow suit and jump.  Which made Rowan laugh.  It was an awesome circle of joy!

Hooray!

Rowan at breakfast this morning, as I gave her some leftover peas:

"Peas!  Hooray!  Hooray!  Peas!"

Snack time!

Her bowl of crackers is in the middle of the Boppy pillow.  It's an interesting way to enjoy her snacks.

Couch time!

Snuggle!

Today Rowan was holding on to a stuffed animal and another toy, and she came over and we snuggled.  She dropped one of the toys and put her arm around my shoulder as far as she could reach to "snuggle, snuggle."  It's the first time she's done that, actively hugged back.  It was awesome.

Fun with words

Rowan this morning:

R: boogie! Boogie!

Me: you have a boogie?

R: get it. Get it.

Me: you want me to get your boogie nose?

R: okay.

We can have conversations now!  About bodily functions!

Come on, Kate

I cut up a red pepper to eat with dinner, and I'm sitting there eating it, and Rowan starts saying a word I didn't recognize over and over while looking at me.  Then I realize she is saying "pepper."  I had no idea she knew that word.

If you say "one," she will say "two, three."  If you count to four, she will say "five." 

Counting

If you say "one," Rowan will say, "two, three."  Now I just need to teach her how to say "one"...

New Words for the Day

Things Rowan learned to say today: "neat" as in cool, unprompted and she actually used it three times correctly; "I love you," but only after I said it and asked her to say it.

Opposites

Rowan sometimes mixes up her opposites, like saying down when she means up.  But my favorite example of this is when she's upset, she will say/scream "yay" because she's not sure what word to use.  It's amusing to hear a crying Rowan say "yaaaaaaaaaaaay" when she doesn't want to nap.

Random Tidbit for the Day

Kate Gordon is upstairs putting Rowan down for her nap, and I am relaxing downstairs.  Suddenly, I hear Rowan shout, "yaaaaaay!"  Glad she's enjoying herself so vociferously.

Letter time

Rowan has, without prompting, started occasionally pointing out the letter A, so that's pretty neat, seeing her do that.

Recycling

Rowan decided to recycle six of her fridge magnet toys today.  Rob found them at the bottom of the recycling bin, of course.

One Slipper

Rowan has decided it's "walk around in one slipper" day.  Each time I try to put the other one back on, she takes it off again.

Questions and Answers

If you ask Rowan a question, she will answer with a "no" because she likes that word.  She doesn't really even understand half the questions, but she understands that it is a question.  So yesterday Rob and I decided to have some fun at her expense, and this happened:

Me: Rowan, are you Rowan?

Rowan: No.

Rob: Are you a human?

Rowan: No.

Me: Are you a robot with laser eyes?

Rowan: No.

Rob: Are you an alien spy?

Rowan: No.

Me:  Are you a Triffid in disguise?

Rowan: No.

Rob: Do you like Christmas?

Rowan: Yeah.

Well played, Rowan.  Well played.

Book time

One of Rowan's favorite new pastimes is to pull books off her shelf, bring them over to one of us to read with her, sack the books in a pile, and go get another one.

Goofy Girl

Rowan was being silly in her room this afternoon, so I took some video.  She likes playing with this plastic lid we have, and will hold it up to her face or my face and try and smush a nose.

You'll also see her get into a bear crawl position.  If she's close enough to me when she does it, I will grab her legs and put her into a handstand position.  She LOVES that and giggles and giggles.

Book!

Rowan has recently learned the word book, and she likes to pull books off the shelf and bring them over to one of us to read, while saying "book," just in case we didn't know what she had in her hand.

Favorite Phrase

Rowan's new favorite thing to say is, "hi, daddy."  She says it all the time, even when Rob isn't around.  She even says it to me, whereupon I gently remind her that I am not daddy.

Rowan: yay.

I know she didn't really know what she was saying, but it was still cute.

Where's Rowan?

She likes to play peekaboo around the corner, sometimes standing and sometimes crawling.  You can see her owl, Bubo, on the floor.  She still likes to carry him around the house.

Hair Clips

Rob decided a good way to convince Rowan to keep the clip in her hair was to put one in his hair, too.

Walking!

Here's a video of the first day she walked on her own.  It happened at my Dad and stepmom's house.  Rowan walked around a lot while holding someone's hand, and then I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, she was walking!  Magic!

Owl

Rowan got a stuffed owl for Christmas and has been carrying it around all morning, saying "ooh, ooh" like she's an owl, too.
